My Story

Welcome to my teaching journey! From a young age, my passion for reading and teaching has shaped my life. I used to dream of having my "own" classroom and students that I could help. I would line up my stuffed animals (or any friends who were willing) and teach them pretend school lessons. As I grew and went into my college years I always knew I wanted to work with kids, but just wasn't sure where to put my focus. I graduated with a BS in Psychology and a love for non-profits and volunteering with children. I worked for a few years for a wonderful non-profit company before becoming a stay-at-home mom and substitute teacher for our local school district.

After enjoying the rewarding experience of being a stay-at-home mom as well as homeschooling my three children for a few years, I pursued my dream to become a teacher and went back to school at the ripe age of 37 to pursue my multiple-subject teaching credential. Hey, it's never too late to follow your dreams, right?  Now, I am thrilled to be part of an incredible independent study charter school where I can share my love for learning with my students and their families!

So, why Thrive Learning Co? Well, this last year I had the opportunity to teach reading intervention classes to small groups of students who needed extra support in their reading journey. The classes were held virtually, which at first I thought, hmmm how will I connect with these students through a screen and really help them with their reading? Turns out, Zoom can be a lot of fun and there are so many amazing ways of connecting with students and families through virtual learning platforms. I loved teaching and helping those young readers so much, I began to think of ways that I could continue helping young students during such an important time in their educational development, outside of school time. So began my journey into creating Thrive Learning Co. I found a great need in young readers who need extra help and guidance in their early reading journey. Our small group virtual tutoring program is designed to help them become stronger, more independent readers using the proven SIPPS program. With personalized attention and targeted strategies, we empower students to overcome obstacles and build their confidence in reading. Our small group classes build camaraderie and friendships between the teacher and the students while we support each other on the reading journey. Students enjoy getting to know each other and become brave sharing their reading with their newly found friends.
